Neuromuscular Re-education

Neuromuscular re-education is a technique that facilitates restoration of body posture and movements. This is established by engaging the brain and the body to perform specific movements and exercises to strengthen their communication and coordination. The key in our approach to neuromuscular re-education is awakening and stimulating the awareness of movement by the patient prior to progressing to more challenging or progressive movement patterns. Without awareness, there would be no correction. Awareness is feeling the movement therefore stimulating the brain-body pathways.

Neuromuscular re-education is the specialty modality of a Physical Therapist. When we feel and are aware of our movements, our brain communicates more effectively to our body segments, producing more efficient and correct motor control patterns. Tonal facilitation, coordination, inhibition, proprioception, postural awareness, stabilization, ART and TMR are examples of neuromuscular re-education.
